Among the surprising discoveries made by archaeologists at the Achaemenid palace of Persepolis (in present-day Iran) is a classical Greek marble statue of highest quality representing Odysseus' wife Penelope. Tonio Hölscher, professor emeritus and former director of the Institute for Classical Archaeology at the University of Heidelberg, considers how this work of art came to be at the residence of the Persian king and its larger meaning.
